Rise Up Brian
Just two days before reporting to Atlanta Falcons camp, 11Alive's Jaye Watson got an exclusive sit down with Brian Banks in the midst of what was a very emotional weekend for him. He took part in the Innocence Project and was on stage with 100 other wrongly convicted men. Brian Banks' story (and yes, there is a movie in the works) has everything. He was the kid destined for greatness who lost it all because of one woman's lie. And years after anyone thought it was possible, he is still pursuing his dream of NFL football, naysayers be damned. He could have gone the other way, succumbing to prison, becoming a convict, living his life as that of a bitter man. But he chose to be greater than his surroundings, bigger than the woman who tried to ruin his life. He worked to improve himself and says that while he may not have the years on the field that the other guys do, he has a mental toughness that comes from a place they can never understand. He is pulling for himself and he makes you want to pull for him. He is charismatic and enigmatic and shows not a trace of bitterness. It's rather remarkable.
