Dr. John McGill, principal of Mt. Carmel Elementary School, faces charges after being arrested in a sex sting.
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. - Retired Douglas County administrator Dr. Sandra Williams has been named interim principal of Mt. Carmel Elementary School.
Williams was appointed following the suspension of Dr. John McGill, who was arrested in a sting operation targeting suspected child predators.
The board reportedly discussed the replacement behind closed doors during executive session before the public meeting on Monday. The board meeting had already been planned before the weekend arrest of McGill.
According the GBI, McGill was among 14 suspects arrested in an internet sting. According to the GBI, those arrested, ranging in age from 21 to 64, traveled from all parts of Northern Georgia with the intent to meet a child for sex.
Douglas County School Board President Janet Kelly said she was stunned by McGill's arrest. She said the school system is cooperating with law enforcement's investigation.
Williams is a former principal of the school. She is expected to begin on Monday.
Aside from the brief announcement of the interim principal by Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz, no other mention was made of McGill's arrest in the Monday meeting.
McGill remained jailed on Monday. He will make his first appearance before a judge on Tuesday afternoon.
