Michael Sam's father doesn't support his son

(USA TODAY) Not everyone is going to be comfortable with Michael Sam's decision to come out as an openly gay athlete. It starts with his family.

Michael Sam Sr. is struggling with his son's revelation.

"I don't want my grandkids raised in that kind of environment," Michael Sam Sr. told the New York Times. "I'm old-school. I'm a man and a woman type of guy."

"As a black man, we have so many hurdles to cross. This is just one he has to cross."

Whether Sam's father is willing to accept his son's sexuality, Sam is still thankful for his family and those who have supported him.
