(USA Today) -- Just one day before its 10-year anniversary, Facebook released its Paper app, a news reader that allows readers to explore and share stories.

After downloading the app, users will see stories from major publications shared among friends, along with a set of new tools to post stories of their own.

The app was designed by Mike Matas, who also created user interfaces and artwork for Apple and helped design the Nest Learning Thermostat. It features an immersive, full-screen design that is entirely different than Facebook's current mobile app.

Facebook's Paper app is the first to emerge from its Creative Labs unit, which intends to launch more apps to support the ways its social media users connect and share.

The app is available free in the App Store on iTunes. Currently it is only available in the United States and at the moment, Facebook does not have plans to release it for Android or Windows Phone.
