Police officer assists in birth of baby on highway

ATLANTA --  Thousands of people were stuck in traffic on Tuesday for hours due to the snowy weather that hit Atlanta. 

While it may have been an unforgettable day for all the wrong reasons for many, this is a day one car load of people will not soon forget.

A Sandy Springs Police officer, along with the father, helped deliver a baby girl. The birth took place around 5:25 Tuesday evening the back of the parents' car, which was stranded on I-285 near Riverside Dr.

EMS personnel arrived minutes after the birth and helped transport the new family to the hospital. 

After the assisting with the birth, the police officer continued to help those in need along the highway.
