Monday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations completed the autopsy. In both cases, their deaths were ruled as drownings.
The two friends had last been seen January 2 near Fredericks Cove in Dawsonville. Investigators spent eight days looking before finally retrieving the bodies from the lake.
The autopsy went as expected, and the families of both Wood and Cox were notified Monday afternoon.
Maj. Tony Wooten from the Dawson County Sheriff's Office said "They've [the families] had a lot of family support over the course of the eight days, and I think that's helped. Obviously it's a difficult situation, and they're doing the best they can."
Officials are still awaiting the toxicology report. That will say whether either young man had alcohol or drugs in his system. That report likely won't be completed for weeks.
