Atlanta Police Sgt. Greg Lyon says 50-year-old Johnnie Wallace was shot around 1:15 a.m., while looking through a garbage can on Spencer Street.
Wallace told police that he got in an argument with someone, later identified as 29-year-old Norwenzo Farrie. When Wallace tried to walk away, Farrie shot him in the back, according to police.
Wallace was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
Farrie and two more suspects -- 38-year-old Andre Batiste and 29-year-old Amber Crawford -- hid in a nearby house and would not answer the door when police knocked. They eventually surrendered after police called in a SWAT team.
Clayton County Fire spokesperson Capt. Walter Barber says Amber Crawford is a Clayton County firefighter and EMT. Barber says Crawford is on unpaid administrative leave.
All three suspects have been charged with marijuana possession. Farrie has also been charged with aggravated assault.
