ATLANTA -- This week's deep freeze could mean sticker shock when you get your heating bill next month.  Is it too late to do anything about it?

If you have not locked in a rate with a natural gas provider, you may be able to lower your bills. The gas companies release their current rates early in the month and consumers who are not currently under contract have until the 19th of the month to switch.

Right now Stream Energy and True Energy have a 59 cent per therm rate if you lock into a 12 month contract, and Stream also has a 54 per therm rate if you go with their 6 month plan.

In addition, ask your gas company to waive the monthly Customer Service Charge. In many cases it varies according to your credit score and you might deserve a better rate.

There is a monthly chart on the Georgia Public Service Commission's website that tells the rates of all Georgia Natural Gas Providers.
