ATLANTA - A N.W. Atlanta father just wants to push his child in her stroller down Lenox Road, but a damaged sidewalk makes that a challenging and somewhat hazardous situation.
Yoshee Sodiq contacted Commuter Dude about the section of sidewalk that is nothing more than a jumble of loose stone. Rather than try to cross it, Sodiq often lifts his child's stroller and steps into a turn lane on Lenox Road.
"You'd think they'd try to make it a little bit safer, especially for families in this area," said Sodiq.
Commuter Dude contacted the city of Atlanta's Public Works Department about the issue. A month later, the city still had not inspected the problem. A spokesperson said an inspection should have happened within two weeks, but didn't have a reason for the delay.
In most cases, the city requires the adjoining property owner to repair problem sidewalks.
Commuter Dude is pushing for repairs, and has asked for a timeline for when work will begin. So far, the city has not responded to that request, but vows that Public Works is "on top of it."
