ATLANTA -- As part of his campaign for US Senate, Congressman Phil Gingrey (R-11th District) sent a pledge to supporters, saying that if elected, he would repeal Obamacare within his first term or he would not seek re-election.

The e-mail, reproduced on a campaign website entitled "Repeal or Go Home," says that repeal of the Affordable Care Act is the centerpiece of his campaign.

"Obamacare is so devastating to our country, that I have decided to make its repeal the centerpiece of my campaign for the U.S. Senate. With the health and well being of America and her citizens in mind, I make this simple and unequivocal pledge to the people of Georgia:

I , Phil Gingrey, do hereby pledge to the people of Georgia that I will repeal or replace Obamacare during my first term in the U.S. Senate, or I will NOT seek reelection."

Gingrey, a 71-year-old Marietta physician, has represented Georgia in Congress since 2003.
