SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- Officials with the Chatham County Emergency Management Agency say heavy rain has flooded numerous roads in the area.
County EMA specialist Dustin Hetzel said rain had flooded nearly 15 intersections in the county Wednesday evening and officials were hopeful that drainage systems would clear water from the flooded roads within a few hours.
According to Georgia Power's website, officials were responding to at least 30 power outages that left more than 500 customers without service.
Flood warnings from the National Weather Service were in effect in Effingham, Chatham, Screven and Bryan counties.
Forecasters say the Ogeechee River near Eden was above flood stage Wednesday morning and is expected to continue rising until early Friday. Meteorologists say portions of the Savannah River are also several feet above flood stage.
