NW ATLANTA - A mother and her 16-year-old son fought off an intruder who died after a scuffle at a NW Atlanta home.

Shevorney Lynch says the man who fathered three of her children made threatening phone calls before kicking in the door of her house on Martin Luther King Drive.

"He said he was going to come do bad things to me," said Lynch. "Beat me up."

16-year-old Andre Thornton jumped in to protect his mom.

"That's my momma and I ain't gone let no man come in and rough up my momma," said Thornton.

Authorities identified the intruder as Eddie Henry Williams Jr. Fulton County jail records show he was booked on criminal charges since 2007.

Lynch says Williams was drunk when he kicked in her door while her five children, including 2-year-old on a respirator, were sleeping.

She says she grabbed the intruder around the neck while16-year-old Andre grabbed his wrists. The two held Williams on the floor until police arrived.

Investigators say the suspect was unconscious and unresponsive when they got to the scene. While paramedics were able to revive Williams, he later died at Grady Hospital.

Detective Sgt. Ricardo Vazquez said the cause of death was "asphyxiation by pressure." He added that it's unlikely the mother and son will face any charges.

"From the facts we've gather to this point, it appears they were attempting to defend themselves," said Vazquez.

Police say the case will be turned over to the District Attorney once the investigation is complete.
