East Point police are looking for this man. He's suspected of killing a man March 30.
EAST POINT, Ga. -- Police here have issued a photo of a man they believe is a killer. The photo is a little unusual. It shows a man slung out on a couch, fast asleep.
"We don't have a name," said East Point police Maj. Tony Mabry. "The only name we've been able to come up with is a street name of 'Rue.'" Mabry says the snoozing man in the image is affiliated with a gang.
Police say the gunman opened fire at a festival that took place in the parking lot of a shopping center known as Barnard Plaza on the evening of March 30th. Mabry said the community gathering was to conclude with an Easter egg hunt for children.
The gunman drove up with some associates. An argument began. Police say the gunman shot and killed DeAngelo Head, a 31 year old father of two who police say was not a gang member.
"Guy pulls out his gun and shoots him. Keeps shooting," said a man who would only identify himself as James. "And it was just a melee. Whole lotta gunshots." James declined to reveal his full name because the crime was gang-related.
"Photo looks like the guy," James said of the police-issued image. "Just (with) his eyes closed."
Police lifted the photo from an Instagram site, then showed the photo to eyewitnesses who identified the sleeping man as the gunman. Mabry said a detective got the image from "one of their sources on the street."
The alleged killer "should be considered armed and dangerous," said Maj. Mabry, in spite of how peaceful he looks.
Police have posted a reward of up to $2000 for anyone who can positively identify the alleged sleeping gunman.
