CEDARTOWN, Ga. -- Polk County School District officials say 30 positions are expected to be eliminated through a reduction in force.

The plan to eliminate positions was unanimously approved Wednesday by the county board of education. It is not yet clear how many positions slated for elimination include classroom teachers.

The staff reduction will save the district about $3 million.

Superintendent William Hunter says a graduation coach, a physical education position and an English position at county high schools will be cut.

Two social studies positions and two science positions at county middle schools are also expected to be eliminated.

A transportation assistant, two creative writing positions, and two elementary art positions are also expected to be cut. It is unclear which other positions will be eliminated.
