Off-duty firefighter rescues woman from burning house

SHARPSBURG, Ga. -- One person was hospitalized after a house fire in Coweta County Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out at around 7:40 a.m. at a home on Highway 54 in Sharpsburg, according to the spokesperson for the Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.

Frank Jones, an off-duty Coweta County firefighter, found a woman inside the house and carried her out, the spokesperson said.

The woman, 40-year-old Debra Pate, was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital in serious condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
