ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- The Ernst & Young organization will soon open a global IT center in Alpharetta, according to Governor Nathan Deal.

The new center will bring 400 new technology jobs, and an $8.5 million investment, as reported by a spokesperson for Deal's office.

"Georgia's talent, affordability and willingness to embrace and support cutting-edge innovation have drawn quite a wave of technology-focused investment lately," Deal said. "When a company with the highly recognizable brand that EY carries chooses Georgia for its expansion, it's a powerful statement."

In opening the new IT center, to be located on Lakewood Parkway in Sanctuary Park, renovations and job additions will take place over the next five years.

Ernst & Young will hire project managers, business analysts, software architects, software developers, system analysts, executives, managers and support staff.

Deal's spokesperson said information from the Technology Association of Georgia refers to software and IT as the largest sector of the state's workforce and economy. Atlanta, according to the information, is among the top ten cities for IT, tech and start-ups.

"We are excited to welcome EY to Alpharetta, the Technology City of the South," David Belle Isle, mayor of Alpharetta said. "This decision serves as a continuing reminder that more and more global companies look to Alpharetta as the No. 1 city to locate their technology efforts."

The expansion project for Ernst & Young is being done with help from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, City of Alpharetta, the Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Development Authority of Fulton County.

"EY's expansion in Fulton County underlines a vested interest in the metro region and reinforces the company's long-term strategic position in our economic region," Maceo Rogers, president of the Development Authority of Fulton County said. "The Atlanta region offers a strong technology workforce with high-tech firms that have solidified Fulton County's sustained economic growth, and this expansion will certainly add to that success."
