  • MARIETTA, Ga -- Police are trying to locate two or three vehicles that were involved in a fatal hit-run pedestrian accident that killed a Marietta woman. Her mother is asking the drivers of those vehicles to come forward.

Barbara Brown found out her daughter, Rochelle Brown, 53, was hit by several vehicles while crossing North Marietta Parkway at around 8:15PM Saturday, more than an hour after it happened. She rushed to Kennestone Hospital. "I knew she wasn't going to make it when I first walked in," she said.

She got there in time to pray by her daughter's bedside before she died. "I've never seen my child look so, so beat up, and so banged up," Brown said. "She didn't even look like mine."

Brown said her daughter was crossing the street after buying groceries. Marietta police said she was hit by the mirror of a passing pickup truck. "The Ford truck was heading westbound and it knocked Miss Brown into the eastbound lanes of travel where she was struck by two to three more vehicles," said Officer Michael Gardner.

Gardner said the pickup truck driver stopped and was not charged. The other vehicles that hit Brown kept going. "It's very possible that these drivers might not have known they struck a pedestrian," Officer Gardner said. "They should have known they hit something."

Brown's mother is familiar with the street where her daughter was killed and thinks people drive too fast there. She finds it hard to believe whoever hit her daughter didn't know it. "We need to stop treating each other like you don't matter," she said. "They took my child and acted like it was nothing. She was a human being; she had people that loved her."

Police believe some of the other vehicles that hit Brown could have damage to them. They are asking anyone with information about those vehicles to call Officer Stephen Miller at 770-794-5357.
