Win and advance is what you want in postseason play and eight DeKalb County high school basketball teams advanced to quarterfinal action with victories on Tuesday night.

Three of the victorious teams came during the Region 6-AAAA boys' tournament at South Atlanta on Tuesday night. Stone Mountain opened the night with a 51-46 win over Banneker (10-16) to advance to Thursday's quarterfinal against No. 5 ranked South Atlanta (21-4) at 8:30 p.m.

Banneker had cut a double-digit Stone Mountain (13-12) lead to 45-42 with 1:17 to play, but the Pirates answered by hitting six of eight free throws the rest of the way, including 3-4 by Marquez Hinton that pushed the lead back to six with 53 seconds remaining in the game.

Jahmari Ettienne hit for 7 points to lead the Pirates while Damani Walker added 13 and Hinton 11.

The Chamblee Bulldogs (14-9) held a slim 21-19 lead at the half against Carver, but held Carver without a basket for the first 14:26 of the second half to take a blowout 62-33 victory to advance to the quarterfinal round on Thursday against Grady (17-7) at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs forced 13 turnovers and opened the second half on a 14-0 run opened by a Ryan Burgess three-pointer and five points from Tim Favors in the run to take control at 33-19. Carver managed just five free throws as the Bulldogs continued to build the lead at 52-24 before Carver got a basket with 1:34 to play.

Redan (5-18) pulled out a 46-45 victory over Therrell (9-14) to advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 2 ranked Marist (19-3) on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The win made the Raiders 2-0 against Therrell on the season including a 59-53 win in December. Lithonia (12-12) was not as fortunate as Washington rallied from a 25-6 deficit early in the second quarter to pull out a 43-40 win to knock the Bulldogs out of the postseason.

Four DeKalb teams came away winners in All-DeKalb County matchups on Tuesday in Region 6-AAAAA.

Martin Luther King Jr. picked up exciting victories in both the girls' and boys' brackets. The Lady Lions (7-17) slipped past Lakeside (7-18) 37-35 to advance while the Lions (7-17) nipped Dunwoody (9-17) 48-47 to move one step closer to a state playoff berth.

The Southwest DeKalb Panthers (12-11) knocked the Lakeside Vikings (11-15) out of postseason play with a 73-54 victory to advance to the quarterfinals and a date with No. 1 ranked Miller Grove (22-3) at 5:30 p.m on Wednesday at Mays. In the final girls' game in Region 6-AAAAA Arabia Mountain (12-12) cruised to a 71-24 victory over Dunwoody (3-23) to advance to a quarterfinal date on Thursday with No. 1 ranked Tucker (22-3) at 7:00 p.m.

The No. 9 ranked Cedar Grove Saints (22-4) secured a berth in the Class AAA state playoffs by advancing to the Region 6-AAA semifinals via a 60-45 victory over Towers (2-22). The Saints will face tonight's St. Pius/McNair winner on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Decatur.
