NEW YORK (AP) -- A person familiar with the case says former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn and a New York City hotel maid who accused him of trying to rape her have reached an agreement to settle her lawsuit.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity to discuss the private negotiation. The details of the deal are unknown.

Strauss-Kahn lawyer William Taylor won't comment. Lawyers for the housekeeper haven't responded to phone and email messages.

The person says Bronx Supreme Court Judge Douglas McKeon facilitated the agreement, which hasn't been signed.

The deal would end a legal saga that forced Strauss-Kahn's resignation as head of the IMF and ended his French presidential ambitions last year. Prosecutors dropped related criminal charges.

The New York Times first reported the agreement.
