MACON, Ga. -- A Bibb County man has pleaded guilty to felony murder in the 2006 killing of a sheriff's deputy during a drug raid.

Damon Jolly, 27, was also sentenced Tuesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the death of Deputy Joseph Whitehead.

Jolly had been facing the death penalty if convicted at trial. During Tuesday's sentencing, Jolly asked the family of the slain deputy to forgive him and said he never intended to kill Whitehead, who was a father of three.

Also convicted in the case was 28-year-old Antron Fair, who earlier pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Prosecutors had said the shot that killed Whitehead was fired from Jolly's gun.
