Crews are shooting at Underground Atlanta for the new film "Ride Along," starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.

ATLANTA - If you hear gunshots around Underground Atlanta this week, don't worry. There's no need to duck for cover.

The shots are simulated, part of a movie shoot for the new film "Ride Along," starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart. Wednesday and Thursday, crews staged a shootout scene inside Underground Atlanta. Signs along Peachtree Street told the public the shots were fake.

"I jumped when I heard the gunshots!" said Katelin Harper, who walks by Underground often.

But she later got another surprise: a glimpse of Ice Cube.

"I saw him when we were downstairs walking, and I was like, 'Oh my God, that's him!'"

For a place that has struggled with its image in recent years, the movie shoot shines a positive light on Underground Atlanta, and sparks a new curiosity in the area.

"When you go around the country looking for locations to film, you want to find places that are unique, that you haven't already seen," said Atlanta-based movie producer Will Packer, who is working on the project.

"It feels kind of dark and cavernous, but at the same time it has a lot of life in it, so Underground is perfect for us."

"Ride Along" is set to open January 2014.
