WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Cherokee Sheriff's officials say alcohol and speed may have contributed to a deadly crash in Woodstock late Wednesday night.

Lt. Jay Baker said 57-year-old Lydia Bordacs of Woodstock was killed after her SUV hit a tree head on shortly before 10:20 p.m. on South Cherokee Drive.

Bordacs was behind the wheel. Her 33-year-old son Peter Kubanyi of Smyrna was a passenger and suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to Baker.

He said a Sheriff's deputy helped Kubanyi pull his mom out of the car after the wreck and attempted CPR, but she could not be resuscitated. Bordacs was pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where her son was also treated.

The accident is under investigation.
