DECATUR, Ga. -- Fire officials say a daycare center is a total loss after an overnight fire destroyed the building.

DeKalb County 911 began receiving multiple calls at around 1 a.m. about a fire at the Daydreams Early Learning Center on Flakes Mill Road.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the interior of the building. Crews were able to save the structure, but the inside was gutted.

DeKalb County Fire Chief Steve Ham said the fire is suspicious, but declined to say whether he believes arson is the cause.

The owners have been notified and parents of children who attend the center will need to make other child care arrangements.

Daydreams Early Learning Center has a maximum capacity of 43 children. It serves kids ages 6 weeks to 12 years.
