The Chamblee Lady Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the Class AAAA volleyball state playoffs with a 3-1 win at home against Alexander.
Chamblee (22-17) advances to play No. 6 ranked Veterans (33-5) at Warner Robins on Tuesday (Oct. 23). Veterans, the No. 1 seed from Area 1-AAAA, defeated Richmond Academy 3-0 to advance. A time for the second round match will be announced later.
Redan (23-8) did not fare as well as Chamblee as they lost a 3-0 decision to Carrollton (25-8-1) to end the Lady Raiders' season. Redan was the No. 3 seed out of Area 5-AAAA.
The Class AAAAA playoffs begin today (Thursday, Oct. 18) and include three DeKalb County teams. The Lakeside Lady Vikings (26-6) won the Area 6-AAAAA title and No. 1 seed and hosts Area 5 No. 4 seed Lithia Springs at 6:30 p.m.
Lakeside faces Lithia Springs for the second consecutive season in the playoffs. Lakeside upended Lithia Springs in the second round a year ago to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in school history.
Dunwoody, the Area 6-AAAAA runner-up to Lakeside, plays host to Area 5 No.
3 seed Hiram (30-9) at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Wildcats (20-22) defeated Tucker in the area semifinals to earn the No. 2 seed and host role.
Tucker (28-14) will travel to Area 5 No. 2 seed North Paulding (28-2) in first round action. The Tigers are just two wins away from Coach Robin Potter's 200th career victory. Potter stands at 198-175-2 for her career in DeKalb.
