AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Authorities say one person is dead after a shooting at University Hospital in Augusta, and a suspect is in custody.
The Augusta Chronicle says the shooting occurred Tuesday on the seventh floor of the hospital.
Hospital spokeswoman Rebecca Sylvester told the Chronicle the shooting happened in a patient's room and involved two family members. Sylvester says the suspect surrendered to hospital security.
According to NBC 26 in Augusta, the male suspect pulled a gun during an altercation in the patient's room, and fired, killing another male family member.
They said the hospital does not have scanner systems in place to detect firearms on visitors to the hospital.
