ATHENS, Ga. -- The Georgia women's golf team shot 4-over 292 in the final round of the 41st Annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic to place fifth in an elite 18-team field competing at the University of Georgia Golf Course.

Most of the nation's elite squads were in Athens playing the same layout that will host the 2013 NCAA Championships next May 21-24.

"I'm really happy today, especially with the way we finished," head coach Josh Brewer said. "You never want to finish fifth, but to finish fifth and the way we did it is a big step. We had a chance to maybe finish third or even second, but it's part of the learning curve of being in the hunt and feeling anxiety. Overall, it was a very good tournament."

The Bulldogs' counting tallies Sunday came in the form of a 1-under 71 from Emilie Burger, an even-par 72 from Rocio Sanchez Lobato, a 74 from Manuela Carbajo Re and a 75, the score of both Collins Bradshaw and Kailey Walsh.

"Today was a big day," Brewer said. "We needed to keep everyone in it. I think that lets someone who is at even-par or 1-under a chance to continue to play that way and not feel any pressure. Hopefully, it will continue to happen. It made it fun out there."

Overall, Burger tied for 10th at 1-over 217, Carbajo Re and Sanchez Lobato both tied for 30th at 223, Bradshaw tied for 34th at 224 and Walsh tied for 77th at 235.

Burger bogeyed No. 1 and No. 3 but quickly worked her way back to par with birdies at No. 4 and No. 7. She moved into red numbers with a birdie at No. 10 before finishing her afternoon with eight straight pars.

Sanchez Lobato's back-and-forth front side included bogeys at No. 1 and No. 4, consecutive birdies at No. 6 and No. 7 and another bogey at No. 8. Birdies at No. 10 and No. 12 moved her to 1-under, but bogeys at No. 14 and No. 17 put her at 1-over before a closing birdie at No. 18.

North Carolina claimed the team title after shooting 2-over 290 and finishing at 12-over 876. Alabama finished second at 880, three shots better than first- and second-round leader and Auburn and Southern Cal. Following the Bulldogs and rounding out the top-10 teams were Oklahoma and Duke at 888, Texas A&M and UCLA at 893 and Denver at 895.

Texas A&M's Mary Michael Maggio played the final nine holes at 5-under to claim the individual crown at 3-under 213. North Carolina's Casey Grice was second one shot back.

Georgia will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule at the Stanford Intercollegiate from Oct. 19-21.
