GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Teachers at Gwinnett schools have nominated and voted for their Teacher of the Year picks, as communities celebrate during the next step in determining the winner.
The 131 nominees were selected by their colleagues, for challenging and motivating students to reach their full learning potential, according to Gwinnett schools.
As Gwinnett Schools considers the candidates, their applications are screened and 25 semifinalists are selected. Then, six finalists are selected to move onto the committee, with the 2013 Teacher of the Year being announced at a banquet set for the first of November.
Nikki Mouton, Gwinnett's executive director of staff development said, "This is an opportunity to highlight the attention to excellence the entire school has as their TOTY represents the phenomenal instruction and professionalism taking place throughout their building."
