AUGUSTA, Ga. -- An Augusta man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fatally shooting a man at a block party last year.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that 20-year-old Kevin Nixon was sentenced Wednesday in the shooting death of Naquan Henderson and the non-fatal shooting of then-17-year-old Octavius Davis in the back.

The shooting occurred July 16, 2011 on Aspen Court.

Nixon was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, two weapons charges and aggravated assault.

Assistant District Attorney Geoffrey Fogus characterized the shooting as gang-related violence.

Nixon was also given a concurrent sentence of one year in prison for a guilty plea to misdemeanor possession of marijuana in a separate case.
