STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- An elderly man was unable to escape a house fire in Stockbridge over the weekend.
The 77-year-old man, whose name was not released, was one of six people inside a house on Clemons Road that caught fire just before 3 a.m. Saturday, according to Henry County Fire spokeswoman Capt. Sabrina Puckett.
"On behalf of Henry County Fire Department, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time," Puckett said in a statement.
Four of the five people who made it out of the burning house were taken to an area hospital for possible smoke inhalation, Puckett said. An autopsy determined that the man who passed away died of smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Puckett said the top floor of the house partially collapsed from the blaze.
