CARROLLTON, Ga. -- The Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum will open on Saturday, September 15 in downtown Carrollton.

This museum will be the only quilt museum in Georgia. The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky is similar, according to the Museum Board.

The debut exhibit is "Celebrating 25 Years," which will include quilts made my West Georgia Quilt Guild members, celebrating the guild's 25th anniversary.

"We thought it only fitting to showcase the talents of local quilters but future exhibits will feature quilts from other guilds around the state," Museum Board of Directors President Marilyn Osterkamp said.

A former warehouse will hold around 20 quilts, but planners expect growth and development when the museum takes a permanent spot. They hope to open interpretive exhibits, classrooms and a gift shop.

The opening ceremony will take place at 306 Bradley Street.
