CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. -- It's an event 19 years and 100 million shoe boxes in the making.

Operation Christmas Child has been packing shoes boxes with necessities and gifts, and shipping them to children in need all over the world since 1993. The program, which is sponsored by North Carolina-based Samaritan's Purse, makes the holidays a little brighter for millions of children every year.

This year, OCC is on track to send off its 100 millionth shoe box. Learn how to give and help OCC reach its goal of making 100 million holiday wishes come true.

A 2012 OCC countdown celebration will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Bascomb United Methodist Church in Woodstock. Everyone is welcome to attend.
