Distinguished Young Women of Georgia awards local teen

Cartersville, Ga. -- The Distinguished Young Women of Georgia awarded $5,900 in cash scholarships to Avian Brown of Cartersville on July 28.

According to a Distinguished Young Woman representative, their statewide scholarship program is held in Marietta. It is for high school girls, and evaluates candidates in categories of scholastics, interview, fitness, self-expression and talent.

Brown was one of 33 seniors who competed to represent Georgia. She will appear at public events, serve as a role model and help encourage self-esteem in young people.

Brown attends North Cobb Christina School. She is the daughter of Mason and Linda Brown.
