ATLANTA -- Atlanta set a new record low Tuesday morning. The temperature dipped down to 14 degrees at 7:20 a.m. That breaks the previous record of 15 degrees set on Dec. 14, 1917.

Temperatures were in the mid to low teens all over North Georgia Tuesday morning, but the wind made it feel like it was near 0. Peaks winds hit about 15 miles per hour Tuesday afternoon, much better than the 20 to 30 mile per hour winds and higher gusts on Monday. Winds should die down to about 5 miles per hour by Wednesday.

Tuesday's high was just barely above above freezing at 33 degrees at around 3 p.m. Temperatures will quickly drop back to the 20s for the evening, then bottom out around 21 by Wednesday morning.

Another round of moisture will move into Atlanta late Wednesday night into early Thursday. Temperatures will be close to the freezing mark when this moisture moves in. There could be some light rain mixing with sleet or freezing rain early Thursday. It will be brief as temperatures rise back to the 50s Thursday with rain.

The all time record low temperature for Atlanta was 9 below zero on February 13, 1899.  The coldest in recent time was 8 below zero on January 21, 1985.
