Going Organic this Thanksgiving? Yes, you will pay more money. But the good news is you've got several options to choose from. Most grocery stores carry organic foods these days, but the selection and prices vary from store to store.
If you don't mind a trip to Forest Park, Destiny Organics at the Atlanta State Farmer's market is an organic option. "We carry organic turkey and every kind of vegetable that you would want to have with your meal," said Founder and President Dee Dee Digby. Certified Organic Turkeys are $4.50 per pound and will arrive fresh from the farm this Saturday. Customers are required to preorder their turkeys by calling 404-366-7006. Destiny Organics is a wholesale busines but also sells to the public. Customers are sometimes required to purchase a case or half case of produce. It is located at 16 Forest Parkway
Bldg E Forest Park, GA 30297
Whole Foods Market has several different types of turkey. "We have organic, conventional, fresh, frozen, brined and Kosher," said Meat Manager Michael Moore. Certified Organic turkeys are $3.99 a pound at Whole Foods Market. They have lots of organic side dishes as well.
The lowest price we found for Organic Turkey was at Costco, where fresh, organic birds are $2.29 a pound.
To decorate your holiday table, check out the bargains at discount stores and liquidators. Tuesday Morning stores, which carry overruns and liquidations, have a large selection of runners, charger plates and other items to add some pizazz to the table. Gold chargers are only $2.99 each and centerpieces are marked down to $39.99 from an original price of $80.00
After Thanksgiving there will be more tabletop decor sales at other stores. Many grocery stores also have low prices on both frozen turkeys and ground turkey after the holiday.
