Google and Yahoo are probably the best known search engines but there are others out there, and the little guys compete with the big guys by giving you rewards.
One of the most popular among money saving bloggers is Swag Bucks. Those who join Swagbucks.com download a toolbar and use the site portal for internet searches. They are randomly awarded Swagbucks, which slowly add up and can be redeemed for gift cards, magazines subscriptions and other prizes.
The whole thing had me a bit skeptical, so I joined it a couple of months ago. So far, I've earned 1900 swagbucks. That's enough for a $10.00 Starbucks gift card or four $5.00 Amazon.com gift cards. Swagbucks members are allowed to redeem bucks for two gift cards per day.
Swagbucks can also be used to make charitable donations.
Members can also get swagbucks on Facebook and Twitter by finding special codes or by shopping online through the Swagbucks site. Swagbucks are also awarded to those who persuade their friends to join the site. I have only used it for searching the internet, and it's worked just fine.
Some Swagbucks fans say they like to accumulate bucks all year round, then use them to buy holiday gifts.
