New details have emerged about what authorities have gathered against the man accused of killing hiker Meredith Emerson in the north Georgia mountains. In the search warrant filed by investigators to search Hilton's van after finding it and him outside a DeKalb County gas station are some new insight into what they already knew and suspected about him (Read the warrant). It was the night GBI agents caught up with suspected kidnapper Gary Hilton while he was cleaning out his cluttered van that they filed a just-released search warrant, hoping to find something inside the van to link him to Emerson's disappearance. The GBI already has said several people saw Hilton and Emerson talking on the trail, and reported that he was carrying a police-style baton. In the warrant, the GBI said that other witnesses said they saw Hilton "hiding and crouching behind objects on the trail." A dashcam video from a Cherokee County patrol car from October showed a deputy confronting Hilton about trespassing. According the warrant, it wasn't the only encounter. Hilton is known to forest service law enforcement personnel who have frequently come in contact with Hilton in the area of the disappearance. Hilton has been spoken to about carrying an expandable police style baton while on government land. The big question -- what did authorities find in Hilton's van after obtaining the warrant? The GBI said they believe he first stopped off in Forsyth County and threw out Emerson's blood stained clothes in a dumpster. Investigators later recovered those, too, as evidence.
