WOODSTOCK - A former 11Alive Class Act winner will pilot a program that will change the way Advanced Placement chemistry is taught in the nation's schools. 

The College Board has selected Dr. Michelle Barthlow, who heads the science department at Etowah High School, as one of 35 participants worldwide to pilot changes for revised AP chemistry labs.

11Alive highlighted Barthlow's accomplishments four years ago when she won 11Alive's Class Act award for her making teens feel so comfortable in her classroom, they enjoy learning. 

"A child's not going to come up and ask a question when they're struggling if they're afraid of me," said Barthlow in a 2008 interview. "It's a relaxed atmosphere where they know they can turn to a friend who is understanding what they're doing and ask a question."
