ATLANTA, Ga. -- Move over March Madness -- the Technology Tweet Tournament is also underway and 11Alive's Education Reporter, Donna Lowry, is competing to become the state's top technology tweeter.

She'll send her first tweet as part of the Tweet Sixteen at noon on March 21. In order to move to the next round, her followers must retweet her original post.

An official scoring committee will track the retweets over a 24-hour period for each round. The player with the most retweets will advance to the next round in the competition.

The social media tournament, designed to crown the state's top technology tweeter, is sponsored by The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the state's leading association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of Georgia's technology industry and the Arketi Group, a high-tech business-to-business public relations and digital marketing agency.

"The Technology Tweet Tournament is an exciting way to engage Georgia's technology and business community and support TAG's efforts to raise local, national and global awareness about the State's thriving technology sector," said Tino Mantella, president and CEO of TAG.

"Our 16 players represent some of the best minds and companies in Georgia's technology community, and the competition to be the top technology tweeter in the state is going to be even tougher this year."

Each player has only one tweet per round that must include the hashtag #WhereGALeads and a link to the 2013 State of the Industry report. Once the player tweets, it is up to his or her followers to retweet the original post.

The official scoring committee will track the retweets of the original tweet over a 24-hour period for each round. The player with the most retweets will advance to the next round in the competition.

"Social media competitions like the Technology Tweet Tournament are effective in driving awareness, engaging the community, and generating a rich online dialogue between like-minded peers," said Mike Neumeier, APR, principal at Arketi.

"This is a highly creative and ambitious effort that TAG and Arketi are executing for the second year now, and we are really excited about the 16 tweeters we secured to represent Georgia's technology community."

The Tweet Sixteen will go head-to-head March 20, 21, 22 and 25 with tip-off times each day at 9 a.m. and noon. The Tweet Eight will play March 26-27 with tip-off times at 9 a.m. and noon. The Follow-Me Four will duke it out April 1-2 with tip-off times at noon. The final two will face off in the Technology Tweet Championship Match on April 3 at noon.
