ATLANTA -- Gel manicures have become increasingly popular over recent years.

Jen Kanter is a fan. "I love, love, love getting the gel nails," she says.

However, gel nails are often expensive and inconvenient. Jen visits the nail salon every three to four weeks.

So she's excited to try Sally Hansen Salon Insta-Gel Strips, which promise to give a salon-quality gel manicure at home.

Jen hopes the product will cut down on the time and expense she devotes to her nails.

"I just don't have time for it all the time," she says.

The gel strips are easy to use. Jen cleans her nails, sticks the strips on and molds them to her nails. She covers the strips with a nail coat and places one nail at a time under the UV light.

"It took us 30 minutes to do all 10 nails, so that is better than an hour plus travel time," she says.

The strips are also cheaper. But they won't entirely replace Jen's time at the nail salon.

"I don't think I would do it all the time," she says.

Still, Jen sees the product's benefit. "I think it's good for a quick, in a pinch type of situation," she says.

Jen initially thinks the Sally Hansen Salon Insta-Gel Strips make her nails look pretty good and believes they're worth the money. However, after only three days, the gel polish starts to chip, and she adjusts her rating: two thumbs down.
