Yonanas frozen treat maker
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA -- Cold, creamy, sweet and delicious . . . when you crave a bowl of frozen ice cream nothing else will do. But watch out! The nutrition label reveals that great taste comes with loaded with calories and saturated fat.
Yonanas claims it can turn bananas into a healthy, delicious, frozen treat that tastes just like soft serve ice cream without any fat.
Heather Metzgar is a massage therapist who believes in eating healthy and likes the sound of this.
"That would be really awesome," she said.
To make - peel and freeze well ripened bananas. Then drop them into the chute and force through with the plunger.
We must say that the motor is pretty loud.
"Looks a lot like mushed bananas," said Heather.
While ice cream contains lots of empty calories, bananas are high in potassium and a good source of vitamins A and C but no fat.
But does it really taste like ice cream?
"That's interesting," said Heather. "It's just like a mushy, frozen banana. It really is like baby food. I don't know how I feel about this."
Heather's Mom, Stephanie, liked it though.
Heather admits she only likes bananas when they're very firm.
"Yeah, I just can't do the banana," she said. "If you like bananas, you probably would love it."
So Heather tries experimenting, first adding some frozen strawberries, then skipping the bananas entirely and using nothing but mixed berries.
We also found a little artificial sweetener helps a lot.
Heather was warming up to this frozen treat maker.
"I like it," she said. "If you have a craving for ice cream, instead of eating something that is pretty unhealthy for you. I would eat it like this."
We did find a lot of fruit left in the grinding chamber. At least it's dishwasher safe.
Yonanas retails for $50 plus shipping and handling. To save on the shipping charges, we recently have seen it for sale at our local Target stores.
So was Heather bananas for the Yonanas?
"For Yonanas," she said, "I give it two thumbs up."
