ALPHARETTA, GA -- Dave Armstrong isn't a stranger around the kitchen. Whipping up a hearty breakfast of sausage, eggs and pancakes is no big deal.

"I do like to cook," he said.

We wanted to know if the Grip 'N Flip might be a worthy addition to his gadget drawer.

This kitchen tool marries the spatula with tongs which is supposed to give it a unique gripping action to make flipping and serving a snap.

"The Grip 'N Flip, I have seen it before," Dave said. "I wondered when I've seen it - "Is that really going to do the job?"

First he tried flipping some sausage patties with it.

"Well it seems to grab it pretty well," he said.

Dave's only complaint - the sausages are a little small for this to do much good.

"I think it would be really awesome for burgers, dogs and chops maybe on the grill," he said.

But he wanted to know if it really can make turning eggs easier? Dave tried and was impressed.

"I like the way that turns that egg," he said.

"Eggs over easy," he said, "I'm not very good at getting the spatula and flipping them over without breaking the yoke."

Flipping the pancakes was another story though. Unfortunately the upper tongs just got the uncooked batter all over them.

"No," he said, "this is not such a great idea because it's sticking to the underside. So I probably wouldn't use this for pancakes but I would definitely use it for eggs."

The $10 set also comes with the Scoop 'N Strain ladle that might work even better than the Grip 'N Flip.

The Scoop 'N Strain combines a soup ladle with a strainer on one edge.

"The idea is you can strain off as much broth as you want," Dave explained. "So you can get more of the solids if that's what you're after."

The maker does warn you need to keep the plastic utensils away from open flames. However everything is dishwasher safe.

After finishing breakfast Dave made his decision.

"For the Grip 'N Flip, my rating is two thumbs up."
