Ontel Dryer Lint Removal Kit
The Ontel Dryer Lint Removal Kit is supposed to give you the tools you need to keep your clothes dryer running at its peak and reduce the risk of lint fires. We try it before you buy it.
The cloths dryer is one of those things that we take for granted until it stops working. Regular maintenance, like cleaning the lint out of the vents can make a big difference. Inman Houston found out the importance of clean vents when his dryer quit drying. "We had someone come out and clean the vent," Inman said, "and he told us how important it was to keep it cleaned out because you can have something as serious as a fire."
The repairman charged Inman a hundred bucks, so he was definitely interested in the Ontel Dryer Lint Removal Kit for only $20. The kit comes with a 10 foot duct brush, a vacuum hose attachment and a 36 inch vent brush. So Inman started out cleaning the dryer dust vent. "It's not that tough," Inman said. "I think it's a matter of finding the right spot where all the stuff is." He pulled out some lint from the vent. "Yea," he said, "it's pulling stuff out of there."
Inman also tried to vacuum the his dryer although the attachment's flat design gave him some problems. "Looks like the lint's stuck right here," he said. Be prepared for a dirty job. You'll have to move your dryer away from the wall and detach the vent. Pushing the 10 foot brush up the vent was not easy. Inman had to put his hand up the vent to get it to move. He was able to get a little lint out of the vent. "Stuff I couldn't have gotten otherwise," Inman said.
For all the wear and tear on his hands, Inman was surprised he didn't find more lint. So for his situation, he didn't think the kit was worth the money. "If we had a real big problem with lint and it was a real issue for us or we had to call somebody out all the time, I'd probably make the investment." Inman's final rating? "It's probably not worth two thumbs up but I'd give it one up and one down."
