Chronicle is a breakthrough in cinematography, storytelling and graphics! It tells the origin story of the super villain and the metamorphosis from innocent child to murderous antihero.

The story is told from the perspective of the camera...mainly Andrew's personal camera. Andrew (Dane DeHaan) is a typical, uncool high school kid. His father is an abusive drunk and his mother is dying. He bought a camera to protect himself from his father and document ...everything. His cousin Matt (Alex Russell), Matt's friend Steve (Michael B. Jordan) and Andrew come upon a mysterious thingamajig (technical term) which gives them telekinetic powers. The rest of the movie is the documentary, in essence, of how the trio develop their powers, and how Andrew, trying to protect himself and his mother, begins his descent into evil.

I love this concept -- rather than clear-cut good and bad, you have emotion; instead of anger toward Andrew, you feel for him, as he is a victim of circumstance that pushes him over the edge.

The other amazing thing? The entire team, from director (Josh Trank) to actors (with one or two exceptions), are brand new to the major motion picture scene. They all do a fantastic job with an original idea.

If you are looking for the latest action movie with constant fighting and effects, this probably isn't the movie for you. If you love the story, evolving characters and drama (with a some sci-fi fight scenes at the the end with some amazing graphics!), then this is your movie.

Although, as fair warning, my wife hated it. Oh well.

I give it a 9 out of 11 on the ShowBizOMeter!
