Volunteers sort and pack donations at the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
The season of giving is ramping up and the 11Alive Help Desk has received many calls on where to lend a helping hand this holiday season.
Resource Guide: More Holiday Volunteering Opportunities
The Help Desk found many Atlanta-area organizations that are looking for help. Many organizations have secured volunteers for Thanksgiving Day, but several others are in need of help for the remainder of the year and beyond.
HeroBox, a nonprofit that provides items and moral support to our military heroes away from home, is in constant need of volunteers. For the month of December, Hero Box is looking for volunteers on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 9th from 6:00 am - 6:00 pm. During this time, HeroBox and The Home Depot will be stuffing and shipping thousands of HeroBoxes to deployed service members. Volunteers will meet at The Home Depot headquarters located at 2455 Paces Ferry Rd, Atlanta, and will be provided with a meal and t-shirt for their services.
The Atlanta Community Food Bank is not in need of volunteers on Thanksgiving Day, but do have openings for food sorters in mid-December with various shifts. Many opportunities also exist throughout the year, so consider signing up for a special events training session to become eligible.
Community Bucket creates a social experience for young adults in the Atlanta area through volunteerism. From December 2-7, Community Bucket will host the Week of Good. Volunteers can register to complete 25 "Good Deed Challenges." Throughout the week, the organization will also host a holiday gift adoption for 25 local children. The week will wrap up with a large group tree planting with Trees Atlanta.
