Cobb County
Per Cobb Co. Government, in most cases, residents do not need a permit to remove a few trees in their yard. County review and approval is required if the trees are located in a stream buffer or a buffer required by the Zoning Code. If tree removal is extensive, a timber harvest permit may be required.

Per the DeKalb County Planning and Development Department, written notification of tree removal should be submitted to the DeKalb County Arborist, via fax at (404) 678-3949 or email at planninganddevelopment@dekalbcounty.gov with attention to the County Arborist before trees are removed from property.

Dead, diseased or hazardous trees may be removed at any time.  Residents may remove up to five healthy trees on their property per calendar year, provided that the trees are not specimen trees.

No fees are or permit are required as long as the property in which a resident is removing a tree from is under an acre.  Trees may not be cut down in buffer zones, and it is highly recommended that residents contact the County Arborist, Scott Daniell at (770) 920-7524 to avoid any problems when removing trees.

Per the Forsyth County Tree Ordinance, all applications for a land disturbance permit shall require submission and approval of a Tree Protection and/or Replacement Plan. The Department of Planning and Development will assess and sign-off on the approval.

Per Gwinnett County Department of Planning and Development, individual homeowners are not required to obtain a tree removal permit unless a tree is located in a required zoning buffer, conservation or open space, the Chattahoochee River Corridor, or designated 'tree save area'.
