ATLANTA -- When a 75-year-old oak tree destroyed Keasha Appling's home on Patterson Avenue in Southeast Atlanta last Monday, the 11Alive Help Desk felt obligated to step in and help her.
The tree brought down power lines that sparked a gas fire partially destroying the home next door as well. But Appling was lucky. She had left her home thirty minutes before the tree fell to go to work and her two children were in school.
However, she lost everything.
Bill Liss covered that story and assured Appling that our Help Desk would do all it could to get her back on her feet.
On Wednesday afternoon, Bill met up with Appling at South DeKalb Mall where Macy's poured out its heart with gift cards to help her get what she needed.
"Mostly clothes for my kids. I really don't need much because I work and I am in uniform most of the time, but as long as they just have something nice to wear to school back and forth I will be okay," Appling said.
"Thank you so much," Appling added as she started shopping for the children.
