ATLANTA -- The well-known expression "It is better to give than to receive," rings true throughout the year, but more so during the holiday season. This year, many area organizations are in need of clothing, food, toys and monetary donations so that those less fortunate can enjoy the winter holidays.
For those who are willing and able to help those in your community, the Help Desk has compiled a list of organizations accepting small or large donations. Every bit counts.

There are several Atlanta organizations dedicated to ensuring that those who are in need this season are able to fulfill their holiday wish lists.
Families First allows families who are living at or below poverty level to enroll in the Adopt-A-Family program so that they are able to receive gifts and household items that will fulfill their holiday requests. Several individuals may combine to adopt a family - the more the merrier!
The Empty Stocking Fund brings holiday cheer to thousands of underprivileged children through monetary contributions from the community. The organization then uses those funds to work with wholesale distributors to purchase new items, which are made available in Santa's Village, where parents and guardians have the opportunity to select gifts.
Additional organizations are aiming to feed and clothe those who may otherwise go without this season.
The Atlanta Community Food Bank works to fight hunger by providing food and other critical resources for low-income Georgians who are without food.
The Atlanta Day Shelter for Women & Children is in need of new items ranging from undergarments and other clothing items, to makeup kits to provide for women and children seeking refuge at the shelter.
