ATLANTA -- The National unemployment rate for our soldiers coming home from war stands at 10%.

Today, thousands of veterans packed the World Congress Center looking for a job and many of them found one. And it was more than many veterans expected.

It was the biggest Job Fair of its kind ever in Georgia to get Veterans back into the civilian workplace.

And, it was more than just getting information -- it was all about actually getting a job.

More than 300 companies that included banks, insurance companies, retailers and health care providers were there, ready to offer immediate employment.

More than 5,000 vets were there and by mid-afternoon, they had polished resumes and completed interviews. Many walked out with solid job offers and a chance to make that move into the civilian workplace.

"I walked around and they said come over and check us out so I went and check them out and I got a job offer," said Tamika Watkins, a US Air Force veteran who had served in Iraq.

"I had a good conversation with the folks over at CSX. I worked in logistics in the Army and they were interested in that, so this kind of looks good and I have my fingers cross to do that and get a job with them," said Paula Gilles, an Army veteran who had served in Afghanistan.

All 300 companies are now being canvassed to see just how many vets were hired.
