ATLANTA, GA (July 15, 2011): The Men's Health & Wellness Center of Atlanta (MHWC) today announced that their annual fundraising gala, MOMENTUM 2011, will take place on Saturday, September 24, at the Dunwoody Country Club. This year's event will bestow the annual APOLLO Award to legendary Falcons' quarterback Steve Bartkowski. The award recognizes exemplary leadership in promoting healthier lifestyle choices among men. Past recipients include Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Herman Cain, and Clark Howard.
"We are thrilled to present the APOLLO Award to Steve Bartkowski this year. Steve embodies the mission of MHWC as a community leader and role model that inspires others to make healthy lifestyle choices," stated Roger Vernier, Chairman of the Board for the Men's Health & Wellness Center, an independent 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The theme of this year's fundraiser is "Denim and Diamonds." The event brings together luminaries and leaders from Atlanta's business and healthcare community, for a festive evening of dinner and dancing to raise money for the nonprofit Center and to heighten awareness of men's health issues. John Dewberry will emcee the event. In addition to corporate and individual sponsors attending MOMENTUM 2011, the public is welcome to attend. Ticket prices are $135 each. The Men's Health & Wellness Center places special emphasis on encouraging lifestyle changes that improve the health and overall well-being of men. The Center also provides services to minority and disadvantaged populations within the Metro Atlanta area and provides referrals and healthcare information to those seeking a physician. Funds raised at MOMENTUM 2011 support the programs and services of the Center to help educate men about medical issues that accompany maturity, and offer support groups for those who have experienced a serious medical event or are dealing with the effects of chronic disease. The Center also hosts community events that provide free or low-cost health screenings for blood pressure, stroke assessment, pulmonary lung function, cholesterol, prostate cancer, and more.
