Winter Weather Tonight

There is a potent disturbance in the jet stream that is heading right towards N Georgia and will move through later through the overnight hours. Temps are forecasted to be in the mid to lower 30's through the majority of the overnight hours so the air will be cold enough, but more importantly dry enough for mainly sleet. The latest projections from the WRF and NAM  bring this through the overnight hours, mainly after 2-4 am, in the western sections of the area. I am thinking that the timing on this will be mainly from around 2am through 7am for areas west of Atlanta, but we could see parts of western Fulton and a majority of Cobb get a bit of winter weather in the morning. I am not expecting any travel problems with this system, if there are any accumulations it will all be on the grassy surfaces.

Severe Weather Potential Sunday

The upper low that we talked about yesterday is going to follow almost the exact same path that the system we had around here on Monday did. For that reason I am going to really keep my eye on this one, it appears that a majority of the N Georgia area will be wedged Sunday, but there is that small window where we could warm up just enough to see some severe weather move through. As of right now it is looking a bit later than the time frame we had yesterday, this could be sometime Sunday from the late morning hours through early afternoon. Check back with the blog and TV to see the timing on this system.

As of right now I am still thinking a 1 on a scale of 1-10 for severe weather chances for Sunday, but that could change.
